Early in our marriage we committed to date nights 1x/week, nights away 1x/month and a parents-only trip 1x/quarter. It’s been heavenly and a true lifesaver at times. Were endlessly fortunate to have such a great support system in place to enable us to do this and both of our jobs comes with a tremendous amount of flexibility, so I realize that we’re incredibly lucky. But I cannot recommend parents-only time enough! Whether it’s lunches, staycations or full-on international vacations. I truly believe it all makes me a better version of myself, which makes me a better mom.

I love hearing how you made this commitment so early on in your marriage. That feels like the key. You both are committed and make it a priority. And finding a rhythm! Yes, having a support system is also key. Thanks for sharing, Christina!

We do, and we love it. It's always nice to get back to routine and family, but the focused, uninterrupted-by-children time away to rest and connect is gold.

I love this Ashley and yes time away is a good thing. I went away by myself in December to visit family and it was so good to only be responsible for me. I did however almost reflexively care for other people's children in the airport. And I know exactly what trends you are talking about on social media. It would be a great trend to see parents in the middle, who enjoy their kids and enjoy having their own time, too.

Adding a trip by myself to my must-dos through parenting! Oh gosh and seeing parents in the airport juggling everything with little ones takes on a whole new meaning as a mom. I would bet those people “in the middle” are the ones quietly NOT posting on social media 😜
